I’m very excited that Tribes in the Dark is steadily heading toward a crowdfunding campaign. Jim Pinto of Post World Games has been diligently working on layout, and has enlisted James Hargrove’s help editing it. We just received the final images for the cover from the amazingly talented Juan Ochoa.
Wait, What Is Tribes in the Dark?
Tribes in the Dark is the reboot of the Tribe 8 tabletop roleplaying game, in partnership with the game’s publisher, Dream Pod 9. Tribes in the Dark uses modified Forged in the Dark rules, which are the system behind games such as Blades in the Dark, Band of Blades, Scum and Villainy, and Girl by Moonlight.
The goal is to update the original game to a more modern set of rules, and to make its rich and evocative setting more accessible to a wider audience. The original playtest rules are available on DrivethruRPG. The final game is using a refined and playtested version of the rules, but the foundation is still very much the same.
The Final Countdown
It’s hard to believe that this has been a five year journey starting with several Tribe 8 fans chatting about the possibility of rebooting the game. Even harder to believe is that there is a 120,000 word or so manuscript that was the result, and we are hopefully mere months away from crowdfunding the final production.
If you want to keep abreast of developments with Tribes in the Dark, while I will be posting here (hopefully more frequently), there are several accounts you can follow:
